SIGNING CEREMONY OF MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN UPM AND SHIN YANG PLYWOOD SDN. BHD.

Faculty of Forestry, UPM celebrates the second historical event in a week
(after the official opening of Sultan Idris Shah Forestry Education Center - SISFEC),
with the signing of MoU between UPM and Shin Yang Plywood Sdn. Bhd. (Shin Yang)
on 23rd March 2012 at Imperial Hotel, Miri. The main objective of the MoU is to strengthen,
promote and develop academic and research co-operation between UPM and Shin Yang on the
basis of equality and mutual benefit. In details, the cooperation between UPM and Shin Yang,
which is considered as the biggest industrial timber player in Malaysia,
is in the areas of student practical and industrial training, research and development
on wood products, nursery, tree plantation and reforestation, study on carbon footprint,
provide training for staffs, and any other areas of co-operation to be mutually agreed
upon by both parties.

During the signing ceremony, UPM was represented by Prof Datin Dr Faridah Hanum Ibrahim (Dean),
Prof Dr Mohd Hamami Sahri (the initiator of the MoU) and Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Zaki Hamzah
(PIC of the MoU), while Shin Yang was represented by its Group Executive Chairman,
Tan Sri Datuk Ling Chiong Ho and its three Executive Directors,: Mr Wong Kai Song,
Mr James Ling and Mr Jeff Ling.
